Danilo Dolci was born in Sesana (a small town that was in the Province of Trieste at the time, but that is now in Slovenia) on the 28th of June 1924, so this year falls his 90th birthday.

In conjunction with the end of the renovation works of Borgo di Dio in Trappeto, financed by Fondazione Con il Sud, we are happy to celebrate this event together with our friends and partners that during these years supported the project and worked with us.

The event will be organised by Centro per lo Sviluppo Creativo “Danilo Dolci”, in partnership with CESIE, Associazione Libera Palermo and the Municipality of Trappeto.

It will be an occasion during which different groups, associations, schools and other realities that have collaborated with Danilo and his Centro will meet up together. This event wants also to represent an exchange of experiences and an opportunity for dialogue about several important themes discussed during these years.

Teachers, students and his parents as well as national associations that took part in the maieutic workshops organised over the last few years are all invited to participate.

A section of the programme will be dedicated to those who along the time devoted energies and initiatives to promote Danilo Dolci’s figure and works. You can send papers, photos, recordings, posters or anything else via email to info@danilodolci.org or bring these materials directly to our office located in via Roma, 94 – Palermo. You can also make an appointment with our administrative office and bring all of these materials in Trappeto on the 28th of June in the afternoon, during the event. In addition, we will be honoured to have with us the State Forestry Corps and the Regional Department for Rural and Local Sicilian Development, that will donate some plants to Borgo di Dio, and their Band that will give a concert late in the afternoon.

The first day of the event will be concluded, in the evening, with the screening of Alberto Castiglione’s new documentary “A testa alta”: it tells about the Sicilian farmers’ struggles during the 40s and 50s, by focusing also on the figures of the trade unionists Placido Rizzotto, Accurso Miraglia and Epifanio Li Puma.

On Sunday 29 June, in the morning, some games for children will be organised on the beach. At 12 o’ clock, the strings group “Divertimento Primo” together with the chorus “Concentus Amicitiae” will give a concert for concluding the event. Then we will say you goodbye, after we will have made friends with new people and will have confirmed a lot of working alliances or will have forged new ones.
